Present and past of the Armenian-Russian relations: Commentary of Levon Shirinyan

We do not have allies. Russia is a commercial ally.

Is there a danger  in the deployment of Russian military police divisions in Armenia?. "Yes, there is ",- says doctor of Political Sciences Levon Shirinyan. "Our authorities do not clarify anything, they contradict themselves. If there is a contract, then we should  know about it".

If Armenia is a sovereign state, so Russian military police divisions should not be there. According to Shirinyan, there is another problem too. "There is too much russification in the country – TV broadcast, military base,  economic presence... But there is still no progress, so everything should be moderate. And you know why? There is a notion  to arm Armenia with Russian super modern weapon. Well, but in that case Armenia is becoming a target for others",- says Shirinyan and remembers Lavrov's words: Superpowers solve their problems in the periphery.

According to Shirinyan, the Armenian-Russian relations should be viewed on the basis of Armenia-Russia relations rather than on the basis of nations. "Russia has not fulfilled its obligations to Armenia since 1920 and Tsarist Russia has not fulfilled till the end any of its  obligations on the Armenian issue. Tavush is being bombed but CSTO does not interfere. They think it is a "small scale". In other words, they wait for another Stalingrad battle in order to interfere",- he says.
