Pashinyan has a great resource of legitimacy and will use it to improve Armenia

Armenia should develop relations not only in traditional directions but in ignored ones.

Nikol Pashinyan has a great resource of legitimacy and will use it to improve Armenia's position in the international arena. As political analyst Hayk Martirosyan points out, this does not imply an extreme pursuit of one or another vector, “but implies an extreme pursuit of Armenia’s interests”. “I am sure that people will also impose this agenda to the government because there is a hope that this government will be relatively free in decision-making processes,” he says.

Hayk Martirosyan believes that while maintaining relations with Russia, efforts will simultaneously be made to improve relations with the West, which were quite passive during Sargsyan's rule. The political analyst emphasizes that relations should develop not only in traditional directions but in ignored ones as well. “From China to the United States are friendly countries to Armenia,” Martirosyan notes.

As for the events that took place after April 23, Martirosyan emphasizes that instead of the way of the capitulation of the “internal enemy”, the way of recognizing the victory on its part was chosen. “This is reminiscent of the Artsakh issue, where Armenia defeated Azerbaijan and requires the latter to recognize the victory, but at the same time does not annex Artsakh to Armenia. It is a characteristic feature of the Armenian mentality to take into account external different impulses and to show maximum observance of the law,” he says.
